So there was this system Alderamin (two nice native species homeworlds had to fight tooth and nail with the enemy to grab this border system) and it was the only one in the smallish galaxy with a red star (likely random set it to bright stars) when I discovered how to make black holes. I'd populated the other 2 worlds, one with Exobots the other Laenfa. I hemmed and hawed over whether a black hole might harm these 4 nice worlds but as best as I could determine it was only the hyperspatial dam (alt to BHPG) that did that. So a BH would aid stellar tomo and let me build a BHPG there as well. The only other BH was deep in enemy lands. So I collapsed that sucker! All seemed well until many turns later I received a shocking surprise notice that the pop on Alderamin II had died out. Oh no! The BH does kill! But on checking the survivors they all appear healthy and fine. I wasn't sure what species had died out until I suddenly thought.... hmmm could it have been Laenfa? I mean they're plants... did I turn out the lights? On checking photo metab it was confirmed, -20 for a BH!

I shaded them to death!
