Another planet-bound race idea for you to critique.
Summary -
Superintelligent, extradimensional zebra stripes.
Homeworld -
Absolutely anything.
The Twarge is seen in our universe as shimmering lines of energy on--indeed right through--certain worlds. The planets that he inhabits have seemingly nothing in common, being anything from a minor planet to a brown dwarf. A planet can be taken with all of its moons, or only the planet, or only some moons, or one or both of a binary. He can inhabit a single asteroid or the entire belt. Despite the distance and dissimilarity, according to the Twarge himself, these are not separate worlds from his perspective but form something akin to "lumps" on a hyperspatial object.
Physical description -
The Twarge as we perceive him, is a shimmering pattern of lines and planes which pass right through and along the surface of planets. The patterns flicker and rearrange themselves with irregular frequency. He is fractal: continental-scale lines on closer inspection are made up of thinner lines, which are themselves made up of even thinner lines down to the limits of microscopic resolution. His moderate white glow is similarly independent of scale.
According to himself, the lines we perceive of the Twarge collectively comprise his tongue. He appears able to move it freely along and between his planets, but not elsewhere.
Social Structure -
The Twarge is an amicable, talkative, and hyperintelligent being. Despite his vast intellect he has a very limited understanding of our reality. Some suggest that, perhaps, it should be prudently kept that way.
History -
The Twarge is currently dining on what he describes as a "candy" coating the multidimensional object which is to us several planets. He is uncharacteristically coy when asked about the nature of "candy"--a fact which has lead to more than a few superstitious and conspiratorial theories. He has, however, promised that he is "finishing his meal" and will "be with you shortly".
Race Attributes -
Self-sustaining metabolism. Telepathic.
Any environment, gas giant, asteroid: Good.
Cannot produce ships.
Cannot colonize planets.
Bad planetary stealth.
Good stability.
Very good research.
Good influence.
No industry.
No supply.
No offensive ground troops.
Very good defensive ground troops.
Twarge shared vision.
---Special effect:---
Very good maximum population.
Zero population growth.
Population only partly full at start.
Whenever population is killed, it is instead redistributed randomly to another populated planet (independent of empire affiliation) if available.
Default focus:
Influence.
Likes:
Nightsiders.
Algorithmic Research, Continuous Scanning, Dream Recursion, Exploration, Population, Diversity.
Philosopher Planet, Scrying Sphere.
Dislikes:
George, Acirema.
Concentration Camps, Transformer.
Terraforming.
Dimensional Burrowers, Honeycomb, Temporal Anomaly.
Species that like:
Happybirthday.
Species that dislike:
George, Acirema.
Human. I understand that the they have "seen this movie."![Wink ]()
